Inspiring Young Minds to Grow and Thrive

"Better to raise strong children, than to repair broken men."

Our Vision

The LAFF Lab aims to enrich young learners with skills and confidence by offering hands-on programs in languages, agriculture, fitness, and financial literacy.

OUR MISSION

Our long term goal is to create a community hub space in New York City (preferably in the Bronx borough). The purpose is to provide children in one of the poorest counties in New York State with a community outlet where they can learn social skills that will better prepare them for adulthood. This will be a hub for the local minority kids to learn and cultivate subjects such as foreign languages, urban agriculture, finance comprehension, and physical fitness. This is the basis of the L.A.F.F. concept (Language, Agriculture, Fitness, Finance). The venue that will house these activities will be called the “LAFF Lab”. This is an onsite after school program which will serve children in the late elementary school to middle school range, grades 5 to 8.

Core Courses

Our tailored programs help students from grades 5 to 8 develop essential knowledge and skills.

Language Learning

Engaging foreign language sessions that cultivate communication and cultural awareness.

Agriculture Education

Hands-on lessons in agronomy and horticulture to connect youth with nature and food systems.

Why is the LAFF Lab essential?

The answer to these questions goes back to why after school hours 4pm to 8pm are so critical?

Research shows the hours between 4 PM and 8 PM are particularly critical for students for several reasons, encompassing academic, social-emotional, and safety aspects. This period often represents a significant block of unsupervised time for many children and adolescents, making how it's spent impactful on their overall development.

Here's why these hours are so important:

  • Academic Reinforcement and Enrichment:

    ·     Homework and Study Time: This is the prime window for students to complete homework, review lessons, and prepare for upcoming tests. Structured time for these activities can significantly improve academic performance.

    ·     Tutoring and Academic Support: For students who need extra help, after-school programs or individual tutoring sessions can provide targeted support to grasp challenging concepts.

    ·     Exploration of Interests: Beyond homework, these hours offer opportunities for students to delve deeper into subjects that fascinate them through independent reading, creative projects, or online learning.

  • Social-Emotional Development:

    ·     Structured Activities: Participation in organized after-school activities like sports, clubs, music lessons, or volunteer work allows students to develop crucial social skills, teamwork, leadership abilities, and a sense of belonging.

    ·     Positive Peer Interaction: These activities provide a safe environment for students to interact with peers, build friendships, and learn how to navigate social dynamics.

    ·     Confidence and Self-Esteem: Excelling in an activity outside of the traditional classroom can boost a student's self-esteem and provide a sense of accomplishment, especially for those who might struggle academically.

    ·     Stress Reduction and Mental Well-being: Engaging in enjoyable activities can help students de-stress after a long school day, promoting better mental health and emotional regulation.

  • Safety and Supervision:

    ·     Reducing Risky Behaviors: The hours between 3 pm and 6 pm are often cited as a peak time for youth to engage in risky behaviors, including crime, drug use, or sexual activity, particularly if unsupervised. Structured after-school programs provide a safe and supervised environment, significantly reducing these risks.

    ·     Protection from Harm: For younger children, these hours can be a vulnerable time if parents are working and unable to provide direct supervision. After-school care ensures their safety and well-being.

  •  Family Support:

    ·     Support for Working Parents: After-school programs provide a crucial service for working parents, ensuring their children are cared for and engaged in productive activities while they are at work.

In essence, the 4 pm to 8 pm window, when students are typically out of school, is a significant opportunity to provide them with the support, enrichment, and safe environments they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The quality and structure of how students spend this time can have a profound and lasting impact on their development.
